The Boston Public Library Print Department is home to a marvelous, though little visited, collection of more than 350 vintage travel posters from the “Golden Age of Travel”, the 1920s through 1940s. Celia Cruz, the “Queen of Salsa Music,” was one of the most successful Salsa performers of the 20th century. Born in Havana, Cuba, she originally studied to be a teacher. After winning a talent contest, Cruz decided to pursue singing. She won three Grammys and three Latin Grammys before her death in 2003. Her soulful, operatic voice was only matched by her tightly sequined dresses. – – more
